DOES YOUR RAT GET ENOUGH FOLATE?

(Vitamin B9)

Folate is especially important to breeders and rescues as it helps with normal foetus development. Folate deficiency may also cause anaemia in adult rats and slower development in pups. Because it is water soluble, it is well regulated in the body and is therefore rare to overdose when given in natural food sources.

Folate deficiency also cause damage to the p53 tumor suppressor gene region. This damage has shown to lead to an increase in cancers, especially lung, brain, colon and cervix.

NATURAL FOODS HIGH IN FOLATE (Vitamin B9)

Lentils (cooked)

Spinach (Pre-soak in hot water for a few minutes)

Broccoli (Pre-soak in hot water for a few minutes)

Avocado

Wheat bread

Pak Choi

Fruits like pomegranate and other with a lower content: papaya, kiwi and banana
