Rats "bleeding" from eyes & nose!

Porphyrin is a normal discharge in rats. You don't need to stress about it the first time you see it, but look at it as a "red warning light" telling you something might be wrong and that you should attend to the problem as soon as possible. Low levels of porphyrin, once in a while is ok, but regular or large amounts means that your rat is stressed (caused by fighting among rats or a stressful or new environment.), sick or fed a poor diet.

Please go to a vet if your rat is sick. Most rats with a Mycoplasma infection have a porphrin discharge.
